Venus Williams Admits Wardrobe Mishap Prior to the 2024 Met Gala

Venus Williams couldn’t be blamed for experiencing a minor wardrobe malfunction prior to the 2024 Met Gala.

The tennis champion looked stunning in her Marc Jacobs gown adorned with an array of tiny mirrors. However, it was intentionally designed to be a challenging couture to wear.

Serena Williams, in an interview with Ross Mathews from Live From E!, explained that the dresses showcased at the event were inspired by the theme of fragility. The dress code for the evening was “Garden of Time,” and the red carpet was adorned with an enchanting green color. Williams shared that the designer wanted to incorporate the fragility of mirrors into the dresses, and she admitted to breaking only one mirror during the process.

While she was zipping up, she shared that the mirror crack’d, but it was too late because she was already running behind! Check out how all the 2024 Met Gala fashion played out.

She is well aware of what that means, if you believe in such superstition. However, Williams fearlessly continued on, even in seven-inch heels.

“Each one I break, it’s seven years’ bad luck,” she noted cheerfully.

This wasn’t her first trip up the famous steps outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so she wasnโ€™t thrown off by what might have rattled less experienced attendees.

“I think I was the first athlete to come,” she recalled about her first Met Gala appearance in 2004. “Then I took a long break, and I came back again about five years ago.”

This year’s gala, supporting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a family affair, with her equally stylish sister Serena Williams also present, dressed in a metallic Grecian gown that matched the event’s theme.

The siblings made waves at the 2021 Met Gala when their tennis rival Maria Sharapova shared a photo of all three of them, signaling an end to the idea that the frequent competitors couldn’t be friendly off the court.
