According to WTVM, three individuals from Georgia lost their lives in a tragic accident in Alabama, just a few miles away from the border with Georgia.
A single-car crash occurred close to mile marker 94 in Pittsview at approximately 10:45 p.m. Pittsview is located around seven miles from the Georgia border, near Columbus.
According to WTVM, authorities suspect that the crash may have been influenced by alcohol and speed.
According to the coroner, the victims were identified as two young men and a woman, aged 18 and 20, respectively.
In an interview with Channel 2 Action News, the family members of one of the victims, identified as 20-year-old Riley Witt from Cumming, shared their heartbreaking story. Although they did not disclose the identities of the other two victims, they did confirm that they were also from Georgia.
Witt, who was one of five adopted siblings, attended North Forsyth High School. His brother, Richard Witt, shared that he had aspirations of becoming a criminal attorney.
Witt and two of his friends embarked on a spontaneous road trip to Panama City Beach, as shared by Witt himself.
“Riley, a young and ambitious individual, was known for his vibrant energy and his love for his friends and spending time with the people he cared about,” Richard Witt shared. “He had a contagious energy that radiated from him. It is truly heart-wrenching how his life came to such a tragic end.”
Richard Witt was unaware of the identity of the driver.
Cody Witt, Riley Witt’s brother, mentioned that their parents made the compassionate decision to adopt Riley and his four biological siblings from foster care back in 2007.
Cody Witt reflected on the profound wisdom that his friend possessed, which seemed to surpass his years. He described him as a deeply spiritual individual who had a strong connection with God.
According to WTVM, authorities suspect that alcohol and speed may have played a role in the crash.
The origin of the vehicle’s journey remains unknown.
