Former President Trump voiced his discontent on Wednesday regarding the restrictions imposed on him, preventing him from criticizing witnesses, jurors, and court staff involved in his New York hush money case. He expressed his frustration at the unfairness of the situation, highlighting the fact that others were able to freely share their opinions while he remained silenced.
“It’s truly disheartening to have your Constitutional Right to Free Speech, which is such a fundamental aspect of life in our beloved Country, unjustly stripped away from you. Especially when you witness the sleazy, lowlife, and dishonest individuals you stand against being given the freedom to say absolutely anything they please,” expressed Trump on Truth Social.
“It’s incredibly difficult to remain silent and endure the onslaught of lies and false accusations directed at you. The frustration is compounded by the knowledge that any response, no matter how restrained, could result in imprisonment. This is particularly distressing considering the involvement of a corrupt and highly conflicted judge who seems to be orchestrating a well-planned attack against me, possibly originating from within the White House.”
The Biden White House has not been implicated in any way in Trump’s legal cases.
In the hush money case, Trump is prohibited from directing insults towards witnesses, jurors, prosecutors, court staff, and the judge’s family under the gag order. However, this order does not prevent him from regularly criticizing Judge Juan Merchan or Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
President Trump strongly criticized the restrictions, arguing that they infringe upon his First Amendment rights to counter political attacks. He firmly believes that as the presumptive Republican nominee for the upcoming presidential election in November, he should have the privilege to respond accordingly.
Merchan fined Trump for 10 separate violations of the gag order, amounting to $10,000. This week, he issued a warning that any additional violations may result in incarceration. In response, Trump boldly stated to reporters that he would be willing to go to jail for defying the gag order.
In a statement to the press on Monday, he expressed his defiance towards the judge’s gag order. He emphasized that the importance of the Constitution far outweighed the threat of jail time. “Our Constitution is of paramount importance, and I would willingly make that sacrifice any day,” he confidently declared.
