Trial for Delphi murders suspect Richard Allen delayed as new mug shot surfaces

The trial for the suspect in the Delphi murders, Richard Allen, has been postponed until October.

The court reached a decision on Tuesday, just a week ahead of his scheduled trial for the 2017 murders of the two girls.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Fran Gull of the Allen Superior Court was anticipated to address the concerns raised by Allen’s defense team regarding the trial timeline. Additionally, the prosecution’s motion to restrict the defense from presenting its alternative murder theory in court would be discussed.

On Tuesday, there were no discussions regarding evidence. Attorneys will reconvene in Carroll County between May 21 and May 23 to continue the discussion on additional motions.

According to prosecutors, they are currently reviewing a list of 40-45 witnesses who will testify during the trial. They expressed their satisfaction with the scheduled trial date in May.

The defense, however, requested a 15-day guarantee from the judge to present their side of the case, but their request was not granted.

According to Brad Rozzi, one of Allen’s attorneys, he believes that scheduling the trial during the dates in May is not practical. He also emphasized that setting an end date for the trial should not be done.

Judge Gull expressed his concern to Allen’s defense team, stating, “There is something wrong if you are unable to try this case within one month.”

In response, Mr. Rozzi retorted, “You have no knowledge of this case.”

The judge has determined that the trial will be held from October 14th to November 15th. Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the revised trial date.
