The National Weather Service has reported that Alabama is currently experiencing a series of powerful storms. These storms have already made their way into the state on Thursday evening, and there is a possibility of more storms occurring overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a possibility of rain on Friday and throughout the weekend. However, the amount of rain expected has decreased compared to earlier predictions. Consequently, the concerns regarding flooding have also reduced significantly.
Forecasters have stated that a few storms have already entered west Alabama as of 7 p.m. Thursday, which is earlier than expected. However, there is a possibility of more storms during the overnight hours.
The weather service will be closely monitoring a cluster of storms moving towards the state from the northwest during the overnight hours. These storms have the potential to become severe, with the possibility of strong wind gusts and hail.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville emphasized that there is a possibility of a tornado as the storms approach Alabama, particularly in the northwest region. According to their estimation, the storm system could potentially reach the northwest corner of Alabama around 3 a.m.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center has included a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather in some parts of the state for tonight. This forecast is highlighted at the beginning of this post.
More storms are expected to persist on Friday as a cold front advances into the state. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has designated a significant portion of Alabama under a Level 1 (or marginal) risk for severe storms.
According to the weather service, the intensity of Friday’s storms will be determined by the amount of rain and clouds that affect heating throughout the day across the state. In the event that severe storms do develop, they could potentially bring damaging winds and hail.
Alabama may not receive as much rainfall as before, but there is still a chance for up to 3 inches of rain in certain areas of the state until Saturday.
The weather forecast for Saturday indicates that individuals residing in northern and certain parts of central Alabama can expect dry conditions. However, those in southern Alabama may still experience some rainfall.
There is a possibility of showers on Sunday, but it is not likely to rain extensively.
According to the weather service, Alabama will experience cooler weather starting on Monday. In some areas of north and central Alabama, temperatures could drop to near freezing on Monday night.
