SWAT team rescues woman after she calls 911 to report boyfriend’s hostage situation

Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach witnessed officers and deputies escorting the suspect, William Scott Kirk, out in handcuffs.

In the early hours of the morning, at approximately 12:53 a.m., a distress call was made to Cherokee County emergency services. The caller, a woman, reported that her boyfriend was holding her captive at gunpoint.

Woodstock officers and the Cherokee SWAT team were called to the Alta Ridgewalk Apartments located on Brandon Street and Ridge Trail. The authorities urged the public to stay away from the area while they attempted to negotiate with Kirk.

According to police, Kirk declined to exit the premises or engage in negotiations with the authorities. In order to ensure the safety of the woman involved, the SWAT team entered the apartment and apprehended Kirk.

Kirk has been charged by the Woodstock police with kidnapping, aggravated assault, and false imprisonment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
