Suspect in South Carolina murder case captured far from the crime scene, police report

A man has been charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of a Midlands resident. This arrest took place hundreds of miles away from South Carolina, where the incident occurred.

Quenell Marquis Anderson, a 37-year-old resident of Edgefield County, was apprehended on March 20 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, as reported by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. It is worth noting that Upper Marlboro, Maryland is over 500 miles away from Edgefield County.

In a news release on Friday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced that Anderson was apprehended with the help of the Maryland State Police and the Prince George’s County Police Department.

During SLED’s investigation, an independent source known to law enforcement identified Anderson as the shooter. This identification, along with other evidence gathered, was mentioned in the arrest warrant.

The authorities have not yet revealed the motive behind the shooting.

Unfortunately, there is no information available at this time regarding why Anderson was in Maryland or how he was tracked down there.

Anderson was extradited back to South Carolina and subsequently booked at the Edgefield County Detention Center. Currently, he is being held in the Newberry County Detention Center without any bond being set, according to records from the jail.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) initially filed charges against Roscoe Pough Jr., 37, for being an accessory after the fact to murder on March 4, as stated in the case release.

The Johnston Police Department asked SLED to take charge of the investigation into Martin’s death.
