Recently released surveillance footage reveals the trio responsible for the robbery at a Gucci store in the bustling Meatpacking District on Monday.
In the heart of one of the city’s liveliest and most fashionable neighborhoods, the store on West 14th Street became the scene of the crime around noon.
The culprits, comprised of two men and a woman, skillfully concealed their identities as they forcefully entered the store. With a displayed firearm, they commanded everyone present to take cover.
The footage vividly captures one of the robbers swiftly making his way towards the store’s merchandise, seizing everything within reach. Following suit, another assailant engaged in a similar spree, hauling a Gucci luggage set from the store premises.
The three individuals made off with numerous suitcases and various other belongings valued at $51,000.
The thieves escaped in a black Toyota with New York license plates, driving westbound on 14th Street. According to the police, they were headed towards New Jersey via the Lincoln Tunnel.
Fortunately, the robbery occurred without any shots being fired, and fortunately, no one suffered any injuries, according to authorities.
Last week, Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized the importance of taking collective action among law enforcement agencies to combat retail theft.
“To put an end to the uncertainty of not knowing if someone entering the premises poses a threat, whether it’s through causing harm, knocking over shelves, or resorting to violence with weapons, we must take action. It is imperative that we safeguard these workers and convey a strong message,” emphasized Hochul.
Tourists visiting the area expressed disbelief at the audacity of the robbery taking place in broad daylight.
“It’s incredibly audacious and brazen for someone to rob a high-end store in broad daylight, threatening the lives of innocent people,” expressed Rosemary Welburn, an Australian tourist.
