Sheriff says 2 inmates stabbed deputy while he was locking down Henry County jail for the night

Late on Wednesday night, a deputy inside the Henry County Jail was stabbed, according to confirmation from the sheriff’s office to Channel 2 Action News.

The deputy sustained minor injuries and was subsequently treated at the hospital before being discharged.

The Henry County Sheriffโ€™s Office is currently investigating the incident. However, they have confirmed that inmates Dontavious Young and William Latham, who assaulted the deputy, will face additional charges. These charges include aggravated assault of a correctional officer, obstructing a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, and unauthorized possession of weapons by inmates.

In a statement, Scandrett expressed his strong stance against such behavior, specifically condemning the cowardly act of violence against the staff. He emphasized that he will take all necessary steps to ensure that these inmates are charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The HCSO has indicated that there may be additional charges forthcoming.
