Severe weather threat spans from Northeast to Midwest, affecting 70 million Americans

Around 70 million Americans across the Northeast and Midwest are expected to be affected by severe weather from Sunday to Tuesday.

The multi-region storm system has been designated an enhanced risk outlook for severe weather by NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center, with a level 3 out of 5 risk.

Intense thunderstorms are expected to develop in the Northeast during the late Sunday afternoon. This is likely to occur in a specific corridor that stretches across the upper Ohio Valley into the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, as well as the Catskill region in Upstate New York.

The storm is expected to move southward into Sunday evening, bringing with it the possibility of damaging wind, hail, and tornadoes.

Strong to potentially severe storms are expected to move through cities from Pittsburgh to New York on Sunday night, between 10:00 p.m. ET and 11:00 p.m. ET.

A dynamic weather system is sweeping across the Rockies and into the Great Plains from the Dakotas to Texas in the Midwest. This system has the potential to create powerful storms that may develop into supercells. These storms can generate very large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes on Monday.

There is a high probability of scattered severe thunderstorms occurring across the southern to central Great Plains. These storms are most likely to occur on Monday evening and could bring with them large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes.

Storms are expected to start as early as 5:00 p.m. CT in areas ranging from Central Texas to Nebraska. These storms are likely to intensify and continue developing throughout the night across the region.
