Schools placed on lockdown after two individuals shot and killed in Independence

Two individuals were fatally shot in Independence, Missouri on Friday, resulting in a lockdown at the surrounding schools, according to the local police.

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the vicinity of N. Lynn Street and E. Nickell Avenue, according to the police. Multiple individuals who dialed 911 reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity.

According to an Independence police spokesperson, authorities placed William Chrisman High School and Ott Elementary School on a temporary lockdown while they conducted a search for a suspect in the vicinity.

According to the police, the tragic shooting was unrelated to either of the schools involved.

One person has been taken into custody by officers, and as a result, both schools have lifted their lockdowns.

The police are yet to disclose any information about the two victims or the circumstances that preceded the shooting. They are currently investigating the case.
