Record-breaking fundraising achieved at Alabama Kidney Foundation Walk, with announcement from star RB

Montgomery, Alabama  witnessed a morning filled with joy, reflection, and fundraising for a cause that resonates deeply with many: the fight against kidney disease.

Denise Riley Mitchell, the Patient Chair of the Alabama Kidney Foundation, shared her personal experience of undergoing a kidney transplant in 2021. She expressed that her own journey has motivated her to assist others in securing the necessary funds and financial resources to combat kidney disease.

Alabama, with its alarming statistics for kidney disease, considers the event even more significant.

“Alabama holds the top position in terms of kidney failure cases per capita,” stated Shannon Morrell, Regional Director of the Alabama Kidney Foundation. Morrell emphasized the urgent need for support in the local River Region area, as individuals who lose their jobs still require ongoing dialysis. The foundation steps in during these critical times to provide financial assistance to those in need.”

Pike Road native and former Ohio State star running back, Quinshon Judkins, also attended the event. He expressed his pride in seeing the positive impact that his hometown community has made.

Judkins expressed his admiration for the community’s unity and support during an interview. He was thrilled to witness everyone coming together and celebrating a cause that transcends individual interests. The sight of people supporting one another left him awestruck.

In an effort to make a positive difference this autumn, Jerry Kocan, the owner of Four Star Freightliner, is pledging to donate $1,000 to the Alabama Kidney Foundation for every touchdown scored by a particular individual. Kocan, who has personally experienced the effects of kidney disease, hopes to contribute to the cause and raise awareness through this generous initiative.

According to Kocan, if you happen to come across Judkins, he will most likely have a few dozen of something.

Judkins chuckled in response when asked if it would motivate him to score a few more touchdowns this year. He affirmed, “Absolutely.”

The kidney walk fundraiser has already surpassed its goal of $185,000, raising over $200,000. The additional funds will contribute to the already record-breaking success of the event.
