On Monday, the police arrested a Minnesota state senator on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
Democratic Senator Nicole Mitchell was apprehended by authorities for being discovered in a residence in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. This location is situated approximately four hours northwest of Woodbury, the area she represents. Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steve Todd conveyed this information to various media outlets, including CBS News and KMSP-TV.
Mitchell, who is 49 years old, was taken into custody on Monday and is currently being held at Becker County Jail. Although she has not been formally charged yet, the police have booked her on the charge of burglary.
Representatives for Mitchell have been contacted by USA TODAY for comment.

According to Todd, the authorities received a call from a homeowner about a burglary at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Monday. When the officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a woman inside the house, later identified as Mitchell.
The decision on whether to pursue the charges will be made by the Becker County Attorney’s Office.
According to property tax records of the county, Mitchell’s stepmother and her late father resided on the same block where the reported burglary took place in 2022, as reported by the Star Tribune.

Mitchell was elected in 2022 and is currently serving her first term. Prior to her current role, she gained experience as a TV meteorologist and served as an Air National Guard commander.
The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Caucus declined to comment on the matter, but they did acknowledge that they are aware of the situation, as reported by CBS News.
“The public holds legislators to a high standard of conduct,” remarked Mark Johnson, the Republican Senate Minority Leader, in a statement to CBS News. “As more information is revealed, we anticipate that the consequences will be commensurate with the actions, both in the court of law and within her responsibilities at the Legislature.”
