Packers and Eagles to open NFL season with a Friday night game in Brazil

In February, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the Eagles would be the home team for the game. Now, the NFL has officially announced the team that will be facing the Eagles.

The upcoming game will take place at the Corinthians Arena, which serves as the home stadium for the Brazilian soccer team Corinthians. This iconic venue has previously hosted both the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The Packers are gearing up for their second international game in just three years. Back in 2022, they had their first taste of a regular-season game outside the United States. Unfortunately, they didn’t come out on top, losing 27-22 to the New York Giants at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

“We are excited to be a part of this historic matchup against the Eagles in Sao Paulo,” stated Mark Murphy, President and CEO of the Packers.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase our talents in front of our passionate fans in Brazil and contribute to the growing international fanbase of the NFL and the Packers. Our previous experience playing internationally a few years ago was exceptional, and we are honored to be a part of the league’s ongoing global expansion.”

The game will be streamed exclusively on Peacock, which is owned by NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News. Additionally, it will be available on free broadcast television in the local markets of the Eagles and Packers.

On September 18, 1970, the Los Angeles Rams hosted the St. Louis Cardinals in the last Friday night game on the NFL’s opening weekend.
