During Ohio State University’s graduation ceremony on Sunday, a tragic incident occurred where a person lost their life after falling from Ohio Stadium.
According to a report from The Columbus Dispatch, an officer made an urgent call for assistance over the OSU police radio at approximately 12:30 p.m. The officer requested medics and additional officers to be dispatched to gate 30 of Ohio Stadium, as there had been an incident where someone had fallen off the stadium.
According to Dispatch photographer Doral Chenoweth, who was at the scene, there were lots of yellow tape and concerned officials surrounding the fall site.
The University released a statement to USA TODAY, confirming that an individual had tragically fallen from the stands and had passed away. They expressed their condolences and assured that counseling and other support resources would be provided for anyone affected by the incident.
According to Dispatch reporter Jordan Laird, who was present inside the venue at the time, there were visible signs of distress among the audience and some students during the commencement ceremony.
Commencement speakers have remained silent about the incident.
