Contrary to previous claims, Michael Cohen did not engage in an affair with Stormy Daniels.
One America News, a far-right cable network, had spread a false story about former President Donald Trump’s ex-fixer, alleging that it was him, rather than Trump, who had a sexual relationship with an adult film star. This story emerged as Cohen is getting ready to testify against Trump at his Manhattan criminal trial, which revolves around Trump’s alleged affair with Daniels.
According to the New York Times, OAN withdrew their claim this week due to the potential of facing legal action.
OAN initially claimed on March 27 that Cohen had a relationship with Daniels, stating that they received information from a whistleblower connected to Michael Avenatti, a former attorney for Daniels who is currently serving time for extortion. The alleged source revealed that Cohen and Daniels had been involved in a long-standing affair since 2006.
In a statement, Cohen expressed his disbelief at the premise of the story, calling it “beyond absurd” and “just plain stupid.” He clarified that he had initially met Daniels in 2021 when she appeared as a guest on his podcast.
In order to avoid a lawsuit, OAN opted to remove any references to the story from its website and social media platforms. It is worth noting that Cohen’s legal team did not seek financial compensation in this matter.
In a statement, it was revealed that this retraction is a result of a settlement reached with Michael Cohen. OAN sincerely apologizes to Mr. Cohen for any harm that the previous publication may have caused him.
Justin Nelson, who had previously represented Dominion Voting Systems in their defamation lawsuit against Fox News, served as Cohen’s lawyer. In response to OAN’s retraction, Nelson expressed his satisfaction, stating that it was a triumph for accountability. He emphasized that the retraction was not motivated by financial gain, but rather by the objective of safeguarding the truth. Danya Perry, Cohen’s longstanding attorney, also played a role in this legal representation.
In the days leading up to the trial and his testimony, Cohen has become a prime target for criticism from conservative figures and even President Trump himself, despite the fact that a gag order prevents Trump from discussing witnesses. Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over Trump’s trial in Manhattan, is currently deliberating on whether to hold Trump in contempt for violating the gag order by publicly attacking Cohen and other witnesses.
