“My life is in danger,” says a marine veteran who attempted to assist North Korean diplomats in defecting

A former marine veteran expressed concern for his safety after stating that he had put his life at risk while attempting to assist North Korean diplomats in defecting through a staged kidnapping.

In a recent interview with Sharyn Alfonsi on “60 Minutes,” Christopher Ahn revealed that the Spanish government is currently pursuing his extradition in relation to the incident.

Ahn disclosed his affiliation with Cheollima Civil Defense, a clandestine activist organization dedicated to toppling the North Korean regime.

“It definitely sounds crazy,” he remarked, as he recounted the peculiar incident of a North Korean diplomat reaching out to the Spanish embassy seeking their assistance in defecting.

His mission was to stage a fake kidnapping in order to provide the diplomats with the necessary pretext to leave. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until the police unexpectedly arrived at the scene.

“He said that everyone’s face turned as white as lilies.”

According to the acting ambassador, Ahn’s group allegedly tied and beat the staff during the kidnapping, although Ahn denies these claims. Currently, the Spanish government is seeking his extradition, and he has already been in prison for almost three months.

“I have been informed by the FBI that my life is at risk. They have informed me that the North Korean government has identified me as a target for assassination,” he revealed.

According to Ahn’s attorney, their efforts to seek intervention from the Justice Department or President Biden in order to halt his extradition have been unsuccessful, as reported by “60 Minutes.”

In 2017, I had the opportunity to assist Kim Han Sol, the nephew of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, in escaping the country and finding a safe haven. This came after his father’s tragic assassination in Malaysia.

According to Ahn, North Korea felt humiliated by the events that took place in Spain, as well as his involvement in the rescue of Han Sol. Consequently, he finds it only natural to trust the FBI’s warning about North Korea’s alleged attempts to harm him.
