Mike Johnson Shows Grace in His Response to Marjorie Taylor Greene

When questioned about Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s efforts to remove him from his leadership role, House Speaker Mike Johnson responded with nothing but praise for the Georgia lawmaker.

Republican Greene recently took action to remove Johnson from his position as speaker. The motion came about after Johnson collaborated with members from both sides of the aisle to propose a $1.2 trillion spending bill, effectively preventing a partial government shutdown. Johnson has faced backlash from certain conservative House members due to the ongoing divisions within the GOP regarding spending matters, including the authorization of further military aid to Ukraine.

Greene has publicly criticized Johnson multiple times, accusing him of being just as Democratic as Congresswoman and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Additionally, she has questioned Johnson’s Christian faith on multiple occasions.

During a recent press conference, Johnson gracefully addressed Greene’s comments, expressing his respect for her. He even went as far as stating that she will always be welcome in the speaker’s office.

“We may have honest differences on strategy at times, but we are united by our shared conservative beliefs,” Johnson expressed, as reported by CNN congressional correspondent Manu Raju. “Despite having a slim Republican majority in just one chamber of Congress, we continue to battle this administration daily to bring about policy changes. A government shutdown would not benefit our party or aid us in our mission to strengthen our majority and safeguard our republic. Nor would another motion to vacate.”

“As I’ve consistently emphasized, the foundation of national security lies in our southern border,” the speaker asserted. “Before considering any allocation of funds from President Joe Biden’s supplemental request, it is imperative that we prioritize substantial policies that not only benefit the American people but also effectively tackle the ongoing challenges posed by the influx of individuals at our southern border.”

During a conversation with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, Greene expressed her belief that Johnson exhibited signs of being “blackmailed.” She further argued that Johnson had undergone a significant shift in character within a relatively short span of five months since assuming the role of speaker of the House.

Greene’s claim lacks evidence, and when Newsweek reached out to Johnson’s office via email for comment, no response was received.

During her conversation with Raju on Wednesday, Greene expressed her unwavering determination to remove Johnson from his position. She emphasized that she will not back down from her efforts. Greene specifically cautioned against Johnson’s intention to push for a Ukraine package, stating that such a move would have a significant impact. She went on to describe funding Ukraine as one of the most egregious actions that Johnson could take.
