March Marks the Start of a New Law in Western New York

The month of February is coming to an end, and an important New York State law is on the verge of taking effect. This law applies to Buffalo and the entire Western New York region.

Buffalo is set to experience a brief return of cold air this weekend. However, residents can look forward to the arrival of spring next week, as temperatures are expected to soar above 60 degrees.

The current pleasant weather has provided an opportunity for residents to tackle the clean-up of fallen sticks and trees caused by the previous month’s strong winds. Taking advantage of the dry conditions, many have resorted to burning the debris. However, it is important to note that there is a deadline approaching in New York State.

In order to safeguard precious forests, woodlands, and local residences, New York State implements an annual burn ban.

Annual burn ban is in effect from March 16 through May 14.

The New York State DEC wants to remind everyone that burning is a convenient and effective method for disposing of downed sticks, limbs, and debris.

When you plan a fire, always check for fire danger in your area on DEC’s online map (updated every week). Also, local governments may have stricter rules than NYS; your fire department will have information about local burning laws.

As the days go by, the temperature is set to drop and, for many individuals, it will remain relatively dry. It is essential to prioritize your well-being and take necessary precautions. Keep in mind that March 16th is just around the corner.
