A Gwinnett County man has been convicted of participating in a scheme to distribute methamphetamine following a three-day trial.
According to court documents, a confidential source from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reached out to Jorge Rodriguez Martinez, a 56-year-old resident of Duluth, on October 7, 2020. The purpose of these recorded phone calls was to purchase several kilograms of methamphetamine.
Martinez traveled to meet with a drug supplier at a Dunwoody apartment complex while being closely monitored.
According to officials, Martinez made a trip to the home of the source, where he delivered his truck that held several kilos of meth. He then swapped vehicles and drove away. Later, he returned to the source’s home, collected the meth, and departed.
During a subsequent traffic stop, the Georgia State Patrol discovered three kilograms of methamphetamine on the front passenger floorboard of Martinez’s vehicle.
Martinez, who was convicted on April 25, faces charges of conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, as well as possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. His sentencing is set for July 29 at 2:30 p.m.
“Methamphetamine trafficking is a grave threat to our communities,” emphasized U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan. He further added, “The conviction of this defendant serves as a powerful message to others involved in the illegal drug trade that they will face consequences for their actions.”
