Late Sen. Johnny Isakson honored with renaming of VA office for his lifelong dedication to fighting for the rights of veterans

The Sen. Johnny Isakson Veteran’s Affairs Center is the new official name for the Veteran’s Affairs office in Northeast Atlanta.

The VA’s regional office was recently renamed in honor of the late senator, who not only served as a U.S. Senator but also had a distinguished military career in the Georgia Air National Guard. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, he served in both the Georgia House and Senate. This bipartisan bill pays tribute to his dedication and service to his country.

John Isakson, the son of Senator Johnny Isakson, expressed his deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for the recognition of his father’s unwavering support and dedication to veterans. He described it as a true honor that touched him deeply.

In 2022, Senator Jon Ossoff introduced a bill to rename the facility as a tribute to Isakson.

According to Ossoff, Senator Isakson had a strong dedication to Georgia’s veterans and military families. He was also committed to fostering bipartisan collaboration for the betterment of the nation and Georgia. Ossoff expressed his honor in playing a role in the bipartisan initiative to rename the Atlanta Regional Office as the Isakson VA Atlanta Regional Office, as a tribute to Senator Isakson’s exceptional service.

From 2015 to 2019, Senator Isakson served as the chair of the U.S. Senate Veteran’s Affairs Committee before retiring.
