Kyiv Reports Russia’s Significant Losses This Week

According to Ukraine’s military, Moscow’s forces have lost over 7,200 troops, 278 artillery systems, and more than 200 armored personnel vehicles (APVs) in the past week. This comes as the Russian forces continue their advancement westward on the northeast front lines in Ukraine.

According to Ukraine’s military, Moscow has incurred a significant loss of 424,060 troops in the war. In the last 24 hours alone, they have suffered 900 casualties.

According to Nick Reynolds, a research fellow for land warfare at the London-based Royal United Services Institute think tank, the tally provided by Ukraine, which includes overall casualties and Russian fighters who are missing or died in non-combat circumstances, is “perfectly plausible.” This statement was made in an interview with Newsweek in February.

In March, the British government reported that the number of casualties in Russia during February was the highest since they began their full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. According to London, Russia is estimated to have suffered over 335,000 casualties during this period.

According to an intelligence update from the U.K. Defense Ministry, the commitment of Russia to mass and attritional warfare is clearly evident.

According to Kyiv’s figures, Russia has lost a total of 10,466 artillery systems in the span of over two years of full-scale war, including 38 in the past day. Ukraine also reported that Moscow lost 211 APVs and 91 tanks in the past week.

Ukraine’s tally cannot be independently verified. Newsweek has sent an email seeking comment from the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to Russia, Kyiv has reported the loss of 895 troops and two tanks in the past day. Since February 2022, Ukraine has suffered a total loss of 15,420 tanks and other armored combat vehicles.

While it is challenging to determine the exact number of casualties and equipment losses, the figures provide insight into the ongoing expenses of the war for both parties involved.

Both militaries prioritize maintaining a sufficient number of artillery systems, along with the necessary ammunition, as well as fleets of armored vehicles and heavy tanks.

Earlier this week, Kyiv reported that its forces had carried out an overnight attack near the Kerch Strait in eastern Crimea, targeting the Sergey Kotov, a patrol ship belonging to Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet.

According to Ukraine, Russia has lost a total of 26 naval vessels in the war, as of Sunday.

According to the U.K. government, the severe casualties sustained by Russia in February 2024 have amplified the pressure on Ukraine’s positions along the front line.

According to the Institute for the Study of War, on Saturday, Russian forces made significant progress by moving westward from the city of Kreminna, which is under Russian control. This advance occurred along the eastern front lines.
