Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock Express Interest in Collaborating on ‘Speed 3’ and Reuniting on Screen

Keanu Reeves believes that he and Sandra Bullock have what it takes to make a successful third installment of the “Speed” franchise. The 1994 action thriller, directed by Jan de Bont, was a massive hit, earning $350 million worldwide and cementing Reeves and Bullock as a dynamic onscreen pair. Their undeniable chemistry made them one of the most memorable duos of the decade. They later reunited for the 2006 romance drama “The Lake House.”

In a recent episode of the “50 MPH” podcast, Reeves confidently expressed his thoughts on the possibility of “Speed 3.” He exclaimed, “We would absolutely knock it out of the park!”

“There is no formula. It simply exists,” Bullock expressed about their undeniable on-screen chemistry. “Before I pass away, before I depart from this world, I genuinely believe that Keanu and I should collaborate on a project. Will we be playing characters in wheelchairs or using walkers? Perhaps. Will we be zipping around on little scooters at Disneyland?”

“It’s almost irresistible, like there’s something unfinished,” Reeves expressed. “I would absolutely cherish the opportunity to collaborate with you once more, before our time runs out.”

Whether Reeves and Bullock will team up again for “Speed 3” is still uncertain. While Bullock reprised her role in the 1997 sequel “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” the film was widely panned by critics and performed poorly at the box office. In fact, Bullock herself admitted in a 2022 interview with TooFab that she still feels embarrassed about being a part of it.

Bullock expressed regret for one of her past actions, stating, “That’s one I wished I hadn’t done, and no fans came around that I know of, except for you.”

Keanu Reeves declined the opportunity to star in “Speed 2” due to his dissatisfaction with the screenplay. During an interview with Graham Norton in 2021, Reeves explained his decision, stating, “At the time, I didn’t connect with the script. While I had a strong desire to work with Sandra Bullock again and enjoyed playing Jack Traven, the idea of an ocean liner didn’t appeal to me. It wasn’t a reflection on the talented individuals involved, but rather a gut feeling that it wasn’t the right project for me.”

Reuniting on the “50 MPH” podcast, where they reminisced about the creation of “Speed,” Reeves and Bullock concurred that building chemistry on the set of the action thriller was a breeze.

“We had a special bond,” Reeves expressed. “Not only did the characters have a connection, but Jack and Annie’s dynamic was distinct from Sandra’s and mine. We had a great chemistry, and it was a joy to work together. There was a sense of trust between us, which made the experience even more enjoyable.”

“Yeah. In movies, you see people having full-blown affairs and there’s no chemistry between them. And then there are movies where people hate each other, and you think, ‘Wow, that was intense.’ In this movie, we didn’t really have many moments where we looked at each other, maybe three or four times, because we were always fighting against the elements. And I think that’s what made it so intense, too. When you watch it, you want them to connect. It was a clever setup to keep them apart. It’s like foreplay, I guess.”

“I felt a strong sense of comfort with Keanu,” she revealed. “There was never a moment where I felt restricted in trying new things or expressing myself. He always had my back and supported me in every decision. That level of trust is quite rare among actors. Whenever I presented an idea, he would embrace it wholeheartedly, making me realize that he was not just a co-star, but a true partner.”
