Israel retaliates against Iran, says US official in Gaza live updates.

Early Friday morning local time, Israel launched a retaliatory strike against Iran, according to a senior U.S. official who informed ABC News.

This strike follows Iran’s attack last Saturday, during which the country launched over 300 uncrewed drones and missiles towards various targets across the region, as previously disclosed by Israeli military officials. Most of these projectiles were successfully intercepted by Israel and its allies, including the United States.

Iran’s assault occurred over six months after Hamas terrorists initiated an invasion of Israel on October 7, prompting the Israeli military to commence its bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the nation’s war cabinet have convened multiple times since the strikes by Iran. As previously reported by ABC News, there were at least two instances where strikes were planned but ultimately called off.
