In a recent development, Andy Reid is thinking of benching a key Kansas City Chiefs player for the Super Bowl

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid did not confirm whether he would play a key player from last year’s Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday’s championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. The team has a few players, including the injured star offensive lineman Joe Thuney, whose availability for the game is uncertain.

Kadarius Toney has missed several Kansas City Chiefs games

Kadarius Toney, a former first-round pick, has been absent from every Chiefs’ game since their triumph over the New England Patriots on December 17th. After the Patriots game, Coach Reid expressed his contemplation of benching Toney. The wide receiver was unable to participate in subsequent games due to knee and ankle injuries. Moreover, he missed the AFC Championship Game as he was present for the birth of his daughter.

Toney denied having an injury during his Instagram Live appearance ahead of the AFC Championship Game. However, he clarified that his comments were aimed at Giants fans and not the Chiefs. It is worth noting that despite Toney’s remarks on Instagram Live, his ankle/knee injuries were not included in the official injury report of the team.

Andy Reid isnโ€™t sure if Toney will play on Sunday

According to Charean Williams of NBC Sports, Toney, who traveled with the Chiefs to the Super Bowl, may not be “up” to play against the 49ers. The Chiefs are uncertain about his availability for the game.

Coach Andy Reid was noncommittal about Toneyโ€™s status.
โ€œWeโ€™ll see. Heโ€™s been practicing,โ€ Reid said Tuesday. โ€œWeโ€™ll have to see if heโ€™s up.โ€
Toney has missed six consecutive games, and Reidโ€™s answer made it clear that Toney could be a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl.

Toney will have to prove himself in practice

Toney will need to secure a spot on the active roster for the Super Bowl through his performance in practice this week. In last year’s Super Bowl, Toney played a pivotal role in the Chiefs’ victorious campaign. He not only caught a touchdown pass but also made a remarkable 65-yard punt return, setting up another score for his team.

Toney possesses the raw talent to excel as an outstanding athlete in the NFL. However, he must also strive to cultivate mental fortitude in order to truly thrive within the Chiefs organization.
