Chicago police relied on video footage from approximately 100 surveillance cameras to aid their investigation into the murder of Officer Luis Huesca. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, Chicago Police successfully located and apprehended Xavier Tate Jr. in Glendale Heights. Tate stands accused of the fatal shooting and carjacking of Huesca, a respected member of the Chicago Police department with six years of service.

The Thompson Center’s exterior and atrium are currently being demolished as Google moves forward with its plans to transform the former state government building into its Chicago headquarters. Excavators were used to remove the lower exterior sections of the building, signaling the unofficial beginning of Google’s $280 million renovation project for the 17-story structure. In 2022, Google acquired the 39-year-old building, which was widely regarded as an “eyesore,” for $105 million.
