Harvey Weinstein’s California Conviction Is Solid, According to the Los Angeles D.A.’s Office

The L.A. County D.A.’s Office is confident that Harvey Weinstein’s guilty verdict will not be overturned here on the West Coast.

The prosecutors who handled the case in California are not concerned at all about whether Weinstein’s Los Angeles conviction will remain valid, despite the recent decision by a New York appeals court to overturn his conviction. According to TMZ, the prosecutors believe that their case was in line with state law and will stand strong.

WEINSTEIN’S FAMOUS ALLEGED VICTIMS

According to a representative from the D.A.’s office, California law permits the use of “propensity evidence” in sexual assault cases, as long as it is at the judge’s discretion. In this case, the office used evidence of Weinstein’s sexual assaults in other jurisdictions to support their argument, stating that it is completely legal.

The D.A.’s office expresses its disappointment with the outcome of the appeal in NYC. However, they remain confident that Weinstein’s convictions in L.A., which led to a 16-year sentence, will withstand appellate scrutiny. The office is determined to ensure that Weinstein faces the appropriate consequences for his actions.

The District Attorney, George Gascรณn, expressed complete confidence in the validity of the conviction, stating to the Los Angeles Times that the office is firmly convinced of its stance.

The New York D.A.’s office may have also felt confident about their case, just like Weinstein did, until this morning when the court of appeals made a surprising decision to overturn his guilty verdict.

The appeals court determined that Weinstein found himself under scrutiny not only for the specific crimes he was charged with, but also for other alleged instances of past behavior. As a result, they concluded that a new jury should be convened to assess the case.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has informed TMZ that they intend to pursue a retrial of Weinstein, despite ongoing efforts by his defense lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, to appeal the case in Los Angeles.

During an interview on “TMZ Live” on Thursday, JB joined us and made a compelling argument about the need to overturn the L.A. decision as well, citing the outcome in NYC. It is expected that this will be a lengthy and contentious battle.
