Rep. Matt Gaetz’s deposition in a civil defamation case brought by a longtime friend has been rescheduled to June, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. Originally scheduled for April 5, the deposition will now take place at a later date.
In March, lawyers representing the woman who was the focus of a long-standing investigation into allegations of sexual relations between Gaetz and her when she was a minor, issued a subpoena to Gaetz, as reported by ABC News last month.
Gaetz’s former friend Joel Greenberg and Chris Dorworth, a longtime friend of Gaetz, filed a defamation lawsuit against a woman and others involved in the Justice Department’s investigation. The investigation concluded last year without any charges being filed against Gaetz.
Matt Gaetz is not involved in the defamation lawsuit.
During the deposition, Gaetz may face questions under oath regarding whether he engaged in sexual relations with the woman during her time as a minor.
