Former Trump administration official urges Illinois to stop impeding deportations

A former Trump administration official, who is scheduled to address Republicans in Springfield on Thursday, emphasized the need for Illinois to assist in the deportation of foreign nationals residing in the U.S. unlawfully if the former president is re-elected in November. Should the state fail to cooperate, the official stated that it should step aside and not hinder the enforcement efforts.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker recently addressed the topic of Illinois’ status as a sanctuary state during a visit to Peoria. Although he refrained from using the term “sanctuary state,” Pritzker highlighted the TRUST Act implemented by his predecessor, Governor Bruce Rauner. This act limits the involvement of local and state law enforcement in enforcing immigration laws.

According to Pritzker, it is unfair and unnecessary to arrest and deport individuals who are pulled over for speeding. He believes that being pulled over for a traffic violation should not result in being taken out of the car and handed over to ICE for deportation.

Former Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Tom Homan, emphasized the need for a strong response to the significant issue of illegal immigration. He firmly stated that if former President Donald Trump is reelected, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will prioritize the enforcement of deportation orders, even in states like Illinois where laws may be more lenient.

According to Homan, if Illinois refuses to provide assistance, they should simply stay out of the way because their presence will not be necessary.

According to Homan, by the end of Biden’s first term in office, there will be over 12 million foreign nationals in the country who crossed the southern U.S. border illegally.

Pritzker has claimed that the migrants in Illinois and the United States are legally present and seeking asylum, but Homan disputes this statement.

“In the past decade, approximately 90% of individuals seeking asylum at our border have not been granted relief in U.S. courts. This is mainly due to their failure to meet the necessary qualifications or their failure to appear in court,” he stated.

Millions of migrants are crossing the border illegally, causing those who are seeking legal migration to the United States to be pushed to the back of the line, according to Homan.

“They’re being punished,” he said, referring to those individuals who patiently wait in line, complete their tests and background investigations, and pay the necessary fees.

According to Homan, the reason for the porous border is not due to incompetence, but rather a deliberate design by President Joe Biden, as he follows through on his campaign promise. Homan expresses concern that this situation will lead to the bankruptcy of the country if it persists. Since Biden assumed office, the taxpayers of Illinois have already spent over $1 billion on direct migrant care, with further expenses anticipated.

Homan is set to deliver the keynote address at the Sangamon County Republicans Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday evening in Springfield.
