According to the National Weather Service, rain is forecasted to start in both states on the evening of Tuesday, February 27, and persist until the morning of Wednesday, February 28.
According to the NWS, the temperature is expected to reach a high of 60 degrees on Wednesday. However, there will be a significant drop in the evening, with temperatures dropping to around 30 degrees. This sudden temperature change could result in rain turning into snow in northwest New Jersey, the Lehigh Valley, and parts of Central PA.
According to the NWS State College, there is a possibility of hail occurring late on Tuesday night.
The NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly issued a warning about strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 or 50 mph. They also advised residents to ensure that any loose items outdoors are properly secured.
Motorists should be vigilant on Thursday morning as the deep freeze will likely result in slippery roads. AccuWeather warns drivers to closely monitor temperatures and be cautious of icy patches. It is important to note that surfaces that may appear wet could actually be icy, especially in areas where the temperature has dropped to near or below freezing.
Most likely, bridges and overpasses will become icy as these surfaces cool the fastest. However, there may be some exceptions.
The forecast for Thursday morning calls for clear skies and a high temperature of around 40 degrees.
