Driver dead as vehicle crashes at ‘high rate of speed’ into White House gate

Late Saturday, a driver was killed when their vehicle crashed into a gate at the White House complex. According to a U.S. Secret Service spokesperson, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Officials have stated that the vehicle crashing into a barricade just before 10:30 p.m. did not pose any threat to the White House.

According to the statement, the officers implemented security protocols while clearing the vehicle and attempting to provide aid to the driver, who was found deceased.

The crash will be investigated by the Washington Metropolitan Police in collaboration with the Secret Service.

“In a statement, police officials have confirmed that the incident is currently under investigation solely as a traffic crash by MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.”
