President Joe Biden’s campaign has unveiled its newest abortion ad for the election, coinciding with former President Donald Trump’s statement that he believes abortion laws should be determined by individual states rather than a national ban. This move by Biden’s campaign highlights their commitment to protecting reproductive rights and ensuring access to safe and legal abortion for all women across the country.
In a recent television ad that debuted on MSNBC, Amanda Zurawski, a resident of Texas, shares her harrowing experience of nearly losing her life due to a miscarriage. The ad, lasting just 60 seconds, centers around Amanda and her husband, Josh, as they recount the emotional journey they embarked on during Amanda’s pregnancy. Amidst their excitement, the couple had already begun preparing for their baby’s arrival, even purchasing a baby book to document their future memories together.
“At 18 weeks, Amanda experienced a rupture in her amniotic sac,” the advertisement stated. “This led to a devastating miscarriage.”
While the couple fondly recalls their memories of the pregnancy, the screen highlights a concerning statement: “Amanda was denied standard medical care to prevent infection, an abortion, because Donald Trump killed Roe v. Wade.”
According to the advertisement, Amanda was sent home by doctors, but three days later, she ended up in intensive care due to sepsis.
According to the statement, Amanda had two close calls with death and the infection she experienced has resulted in severe damage, possibly affecting her future ability to conceive.
The ad ends with the statement: “Donald Trump is responsible for this,” while Amanda can be seen in the background, visibly upset, as her husband comforts her.
As part of a $30 million ad campaign, the Biden campaign has announced that the ad will be aired in battleground states on local broadcast and cable television, as well as on national cable.
The campaign has announced that the advertisement will be broadcasted on well-known entertainment and sports programs like ESPN, Comedy Central, FX, and TNT. It will also be featured during prime-time shows such as “Saturday Night Live,” “The Voice,” “American Idol,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Abbott Elementary.”
The request for comment from Trump’s campaign went unanswered.
In February, the couple shared with NBC News their intention to relocate the frozen embryos from Texas as a precautionary measure in case the state discontinues in vitro fertilization services. They revealed that she had filed a lawsuit against Texas after her life was put at risk due to doctors’ delay in providing a medically necessary abortion.
Biden and the Democrats are banking on the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn the historic Roe ruling from 1973 to work in their favor during the upcoming November elections. This move comes as no surprise, considering how the issue of reproductive rights played a pivotal role in boosting the party’s candidates during the 2022 midterm elections.
