Darius Rucker, the singer of Hootie & The Blowfish, has dedicated his new record to his mother, Carolyn.
In regards to his arrest in February, Darius Rucker has finally opened up, stating, “It is what it is.”
Tennessee authorities arrested Rucker, 58, on February 1st, after the renowned “Wagon Wheel” singer voluntarily surrendered himself. He faced charges of two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance, along with a violation of the state’s vehicle registration law, as confirmed by Fox News Digital.
During an appearance on the “Today” show, Rucker confidently stated that he took action and resolved the situation. He mentioned that his lawyers are currently handling the matter, acknowledging that sometimes things just happen and need to be dealt with.

Rucker shared a humorous anecdote about an incident where he was on his way to a friend’s house to help them move. He was stopped by the police while transporting some items, but to his surprise, they eventually let him go without any issues.
“I received a phone call a year later, informing me that there was a warrant for my arrest,” he recalled. “Without hesitation, I went down to the authorities. It’s remarkable that in my fifty-seven years of living, I had never once set foot inside a jail cell.”
In February 2023, Officer Ryan Schuman from the Franklin Police Department initially stopped Rucker for having expired tags, as reported by Fox News Digital during the time of the country music star’s arrest.
On February 1st, Darius Rucker was taken into custody and booked into the Williamson County jail. This information was confirmed by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
During the stop, the police detected a potent smell of marijuana and discovered a jar of pills without proper stamps. Rucker willingly surrendered a small marijuana blunt prior to the officers conducting a search on him. According to authorities, Rucker claimed to be unaware of the nature of the pills, stating that they were given to him by his girlfriend.
Rucker was released during the 2023 traffic stop while awaiting the identification of the unmarked pills. It was later determined by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation that the pills were psilocin, commonly known as magic mushrooms. In December, a warrant was issued for Rucker’s arrest, and nearly a year after the initial traffic stop, he turned himself in.

During the traffic stop, Rucker asserted that the drugs discovered on his person belonged to his friends.
In an interview with the “Today” show, he explained that the birds were in the process of moving and were unable to fly with it. They approached him and asked if he could assist them by taking it, to which he gladly agreed.
According to a statement shared with Fox News Digital at the time of the arrest, Rucker’s lawyer, Mark Puryear, mentioned that the musician was “fully cooperating” with authorities.
Rucker’s career took off when he joined the band Hootie & the Blowfish. Recently, the group came together again for a tour commemorating the 30th anniversary of their album “Cracked Rear View,” which kicked off in May. Rucker proudly states that “Cracked Rear View” is among the top 10 highest-selling studio albums ever.
After taking a break in 2008, Hootie & the Blowfish pursued their solo endeavors, releasing four more albums. Darius Rucker, the lead singer, also embarked on his own solo journey during this time.
