A 16-year-old protester, who allegedly vandalized a memorial dedicated to World War I in Central Park during a pro-Palestinian demonstration, has been arrested after his own father turned him over to the police. The incident took place on Monday, where the words “Gaza” and “Free Palestine” were written on the base of the 107th Infantry Memorial. The New York Post reports that the teenager was taken into custody on Thursday night. He now faces a felony charge of criminal mischief in the third degree and a misdemeanor charge of making graffiti. NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry expressed his disapproval of the vandalism, stating, “The despicable vandalism we saw earlier this week on the WWI Memorial will not be ignored, and will not go unpunished.” Along with his statement, Daughtry shared a picture of the teen, with his face blurred out, in handcuffs. He further emphasized that this act of desecration undermines the freedoms that our heroes fought and died for.
