Cruz accuses Democrats of disregarding longstanding precedent in rejecting Mayorkas articles of impeachment

In a recent post on X, Senator Ted Cruz criticized Chuck Schumer’s actions, accusing him of disregarding longstanding Senate traditions and disregarding the Constitution. Cruz expressed his disappointment in Schumer’s decision to deny the Senate the opportunity to conduct an impeachment trial, stating that it demonstrated a lack of concern for the principles of democracy and the rule of law.

According to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), there is no need for a trial because the House has sent over an impeachment trial that he considers to be the least legitimate, least substantive, and most politicized in the history of the United States.

Cruz made an effort to hinder Schumer’s attempt to dismiss the charges by proposing a motion to hold a private session in the Senate to discuss the constitutionality of the impeachment. However, Democrats voted against it.

Republicans have been pushing for an impeachment to bring attention to the Biden administration’s stance on immigration and border security. The House articles alleged that Mayorkas had violated immigration laws and breached public trust, contending that he had failed to uphold his oath of office.
