After two weeks of public outcry, it was not Harrison Butker, the Chiefs’ placekicker, but rather a member of the City of K.C.’s social media team who was fired for doxxing the Super Bowl champion. The controversy arose from Butker’s commencement speech.
On Thursday, Mayor Quinton Lucas of Kansas City announced that the city has terminated a staff member who publicly criticized 28-year-old Harrison Butker following his speech at Benedictine College. The staff member tweeted, “Just a friendly reminder that Harrison Butker resides in the City of Lee’s Summit.”
Regrettably, the tweet upset numerous individuals who felt that it compromised Harrison’s safety. This included Missouri’s Attorney General, the state’s highest-ranking law enforcement official, who pledged to take appropriate measures.
“I will ensure that the Missouri Human Rights Act is enforced to protect the rights of Missourians to freely practice their religion. Stay tuned,” stated MO AG Andrew Bailey.
HARRISON BUTKER ON THE FIELD
It is uncertain whether the Attorney General will take any action now that the social media staffer has been terminated from their position.
The mayor, on his part, desires to move forward from the controversy.
Lucas expressed his anticipation for the future during a recent radio interview, stating, “We are all excited about moving forward, allowing the Chiefs to play and the city to focus on providing essential services.”
Despite facing criticism and calls for his job, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has found support from some of the team’s most influential figures. Superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, and team heiress Gracie Hunt have all stood by Butker during this challenging time.
Harrison Butker is here to stay.
