Bernie Sanders thinks Israel doesn’t deserve another nickel

May 12 (UPI) – In a bold statement, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, who is Jewish himself, expressed his belief that Israel should not receive any further financial support from the United States for its involvement in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

During an interview with NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Bernie Sanders stated that Israel has violated both international and American laws. He firmly believes that Israel should no longer receive any military aid from the United States.

During a recent interview, Sanders did not hold back in expressing his disdain for Hamas, the organization that currently governs Gaza while under Israeli occupation. He went as far as labeling them a “disgusting terrorist organization.” Sanders firmly believes that it was the Palestinian militia who initiated the conflict.

Hamas justified its October 7 attack as a response to the relentless violence inflicted upon Palestinians by Israeli forces and illegal settlers in Palestine in 2023. The raiding of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli Police earlier last year and the widespread detention of Palestinians in Israel further fueled their grievance.

“In a civilized society, conducting a war should not entail the devastating toll of 35,000 Palestinians losing their lives and 77,000 being wounded, with a majority of them being women and children. Such staggering numbers highlight the immense human cost that is associated with conflicts, emphasizing the urgent need for a more humane approach to warfare.”

Bernie Sanders strongly criticized Israel for causing extensive damage to Gaza, including the destruction of 60% of its housing and the decimation of vital civilian infrastructure, such as water and sewage systems, as well as hospitals.

According to Sanders, every university in Gaza has been bombed, which is an alarming situation. Additionally, humanitarian organizations are expressing concerns about the high possibility of hundreds of thousands of children facing starvation.

According to the Foreign Assistance Act, it explicitly states that any entity, state, or country that obstructs U.S. humanitarian aid is in direct violation of the law. Consequently, these entities should not be eligible to receive military aid from the United States.

According to Sanders, there are Republican politicians and even some Democrats who are in favor of Israel launching an invasion on Rafah, disregarding the international community’s pleas to avoid such action due to the potential humanitarian crisis it would worsen.

According to Sanders, there is a growing sense of isolation in our support for Israel, as it is being seen as a pariah nation.

When Kristen Welker asked if there is a non-military solution to eliminate Hamas, given their aim to destroy Israel, Sanders responded by stating that the objective is to defeat Hamas without causing excessive destruction or annihilating them, as we are witnessing in Gaza.
