Barron Trump to take on a role as a Florida delegate at the Republican convention

The political spotlight is about to shine on Barron Trump.

According to NBC News, the Republican Party of Florida has selected Trump, the youngest child of former President Donald Trump, as one of the state’s at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention. Despite being largely kept out of the political spotlight, Trump, who will be graduating from high school next week, has been given this significant role within the party.

“We have an incredible group of grassroots leaders, elected officials, and even members of the Trump family,” expressed Evan Power, chairman of the Florida GOP. “Florida’s convention team is truly exceptional, but more importantly, we are focused on securing a resounding victory in Florida.”

Trump’s role as a delegate will be his most prominent political position to date.

Barron Trump, who celebrated his 18th birthday in March, has maintained a more private life compared to his politically active siblings, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. Like them, Barron will also serve as a Florida at-large RNC delegate, alongside his sister Tiffany.

Last month, he found himself thrust into the spotlight of political news when his father’s New York criminal trial began. The trial centered around hush money payments made to an adult film star before the 2016 election.

The attorneys representing the former president made a case for granting him a break from the trial so that he could attend Barron Trump’s high school graduation on May 17. Judge Juan Merchan agreed to their request.

The Trump campaign spokesman did not respond when asked for comment.

The Trump family is set to exert a significant influence on Florida’s RNC delegation.

On Wednesday night, party leaders had a phone call with Eric Trump, the chairman of the delegation, and Power, the chairman of the state GOP.

Donald Trump has emerged victorious in the state not once, but twice. Even during his failed re-election campaign in 2020, he managed to secure a lead of over 3 percentage points. The state party has shown immense support for his presidential bid this year, even before his official nomination.

During this cycle, the party faced a challenging situation with Governor Ron DeSantis also competing for the GOP presidential nomination. However, despite having their home-state governor in the race, Florida party officials made it clear that they would support Trump.

In September, the loyalty pledge requirement that would have forced GOP presidential candidates to support the eventual Republican nominee in order to be on the state’s March 19 primary ballot was removed by party leaders. Trump backed this proposal, but DeSantis’ campaign openly opposed it.

In addition to Trump family members, the Florida GOP has given approval to a number of the former president’s most ardent supporters to serve as RNC at-large delegates.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., is among those attending the event. Also present is Michael Boulous, the husband of Tiffany Trump. Pam Bondi, a former state Attorney General and staunch Trump ally who has been involved with pro-Trump super PACs, is also in attendance. Other notable attendees include Sergio Gor, a long-time Trump adviser, Ike Perlmutter, the former Chairman of Marvel Entertainment and a prominent Trump donor, as well as several state-level Republican politicians who took the bold step of endorsing Trump over DeSantis.
