At least 11 people have died in Mother’s Day weekend shootings throughout the country

Tragedy struck over the weekend as a series of shootings claimed the lives of at least 11 individuals, including a teenager. These incidents occurred across various states, spanning from Florida to Massachusetts.

According to a statement from Baldwin County Sheriff’s Capt. Andre Reid, a party attended by approximately 1,000 people in Stockton, Alabama, turned deadly on Saturday night. Three individuals lost their lives, while 15 others sustained injuries as a result of gunfire.

According to authorities, it is believed that there were multiple shooters involved in the outbreak of violence at around 9:30 p.m. on an open field that served as an outdoor venue.

Authorities have not made any arrests.

In Tallahassee, Florida, the police discovered “several individuals with gunshot injuries” at 1147 Apalachee Parkway around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. An update on X confirmed that two men were declared dead at the location.

According to Tallahassee police, two additional adults who were shot were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, their current condition is still unknown.

Police did not provide further details regarding the circumstances that preceded the shooting or whether any suspects had been apprehended. Detectives in Tallahassee are urging any individuals who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and provide information.

In another part of Florida, Tampa’s police officers initiated an investigation into a shooting that occurred in a parking lot on S. Howard Avenue’s 500 block. This incident resulted in three men sustaining gunshot wounds.

According to a news release by the police, the initial investigation suggests that the three injured individuals were acquainted with each other and had prior interactions. The altercation between the three adult males, which later led to the shooting, was a result of a dispute that escalated.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated that the incident is currently under investigation, with officers and detectives actively collecting evidence.

Bercaw expressed her condolences to the families affected by the violence, particularly on a day as significant as Mother’s Day.

During a house party in Northborough, Massachusetts, a 16-year-old tragically lost their life in a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday. The town, located approximately 36 miles east of Boston, was shaken by the incident. Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early revealed during a news conference that three individuals were injured in total, with one 17-year-old being shot in the buttocks. Fortunately, all three injured individuals have been released from the hospital after receiving the necessary medical treatment.

Paramedics provided medical treatment to other individuals at the scene who declined to be taken to the hospital, according to his statement.

Northborough Police Chief Brian Griffin revealed that his department had been in contact with the homeowner prior to the event and had advised against hosting the party. This was the second “large gathering” held at the residence since April. Chief Griffin further stated that there were over 200 people present at the residence throughout the night.

Early revealed that there were individuals who were underage present at the location.

A partygoer noticed a gun at the party and quickly alerted the police who were on patrol in the area around 1 a.m. on Sunday. Upon receiving this information, the police called for assistance from outside agencies to address the situation, ensuring a swift response.

Officers were staging nearby when they heard gunfire and immediately rushed to the home. Upon arrival, they were met with a chaotic scene, as described by Griffin. Three individuals were subsequently arrested on weapons charges and are scheduled for arraignment on Monday, according to Early.

According to Early, all three suspects, aged between 19 and 27, as well as the deceased, were from outside Northborough. He mentioned that the residence is situated on a large property that includes an Airbnb unit. However, he clarified that the home where the party took place was not a short-term rental.

On Saturday night, tragedy struck in Euclid, Ohio, when a police officer lost his life in a fatal shooting. According to authorities, the officer was ambushed by a gunman. The incident unfolded after officers were called to a residence on East 211th Street, responding to a report of a disturbance. The nature of the disturbance remains unknown at this time.

The suspect, Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, has been identified by the authorities. He is currently on the run and has not been apprehended yet, as reported by NBC affiliate WKYC of Cleveland. In the court records, it is revealed that Vaughn has a criminal history, including convictions for felonious assault and possessing weapons while on disability. He had been serving time in an Ohio state prison since late 2021, with an expected release date in early 2023, although the exact date remains unclear according to the records.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has identified the officer involved in the incident as Jacob Derbin. Yost assured that the responsible individual will be apprehended and face the consequences of their actions.

“It is a tragic coincidence that a mother had to endure the loss of her son on Mother’s Day, and it is even more disheartening that this heinous act occurred as we were about to honor our fallen heroes during Police Memorial Week,” expressed Yost.
