Alabama is expected to see a “significant” cold wave this week

The National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings and watches for most of Alabama as a “significant late-season cold snap” is expected to arrive on Monday night. These warnings and watches will remain in effect until Tuesday morning.

Forecasters predict that Alabama will experience a cold front later today, which will be followed by much cooler and drier weather.

A freeze warning has been issued for several counties in Alabama from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. on Tuesday. The affected counties include Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb, and Cullman.

Temperatures as low as 25 degrees are expected in those areas by Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

CENTRAL ALABAMA

A freeze warning has been issued for several counties in Alabama, including Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike, and Barbour counties. This warning is effective from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, temperatures during Monday night into Tuesday morning are expected to range from 26 to 32 degrees.

SOUTH ALABAMA

A freeze warning has been issued for Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Butler, Crenshaw, Escambia, and Covington counties. The warning will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, temperatures in those areas could drop as low as 30 degrees by Tuesday morning.

A freeze watch has been issued for Coffee, Dale, and Henry counties starting Monday night and lasting until Tuesday morning.
