Randy Travis attributes his comeback to the music industry to “God’s grace” and the assistance of artificial intelligence.
In 2013, the country singer experienced a devastating stroke that resulted in loss of mobility and speech. However, he has since made significant progress and has regained the ability to walk and talk, although he continues to face challenges.
According to a recent report by “CBS Sunday Morning,” although his wife Mary does most of the talking for him these days, it hasn’t dampened his love for music.
Travis has recently made a comeback with his latest song, “Where That Came From,” thanks to the help of AI. This marks his first release in over ten years.
“In early 2023, the music world was abuzz with discussions about the rapid rise of artificial intelligence. This technological advancement brought forth a new wave of opportunities and challenges for artists. Protecting artists’ rights, combating copyright infringement, and establishing proper legislation became central topics of conversation among Warner Music Group executives. In response to these pressing issues, Cris Lacy, Warner Music Nashville Co-Chair & Co-President, proposed a powerful idea: ‘AI for good would be giving Randy Travis his voice back.’ This statement encapsulated the potential of artificial intelligence to restore the voice of a beloved artist.”
Scotty Emerick and John Scott Sherrill wrote the new song, which was initially recorded by James Dupre but never released. The unique aspect of this track is the use of technology to extract Travis’ voice from the old recording. This extracted voice is then layered over Dupre’s singing, resulting in a captivating blend of their vocal talents.
Travis expressed his gratitude, stating, “Eleven years ago, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to be involved in music production. However, with the grace of God and the unwavering support from my family, friends, fellow artists, and fans, I am able to create the music that I hold dear to my heart.” He further shared his excitement about collaborating with Kyle Lehning and Warner Music Nashville once again, describing the experience as special and nostalgic. Travis eagerly announced the release of his new song, titled ‘Where That Came From’, and extended his appreciation to his incredible team and the best fans in the world for allowing him to get back in the saddle again. He concluded by expressing his enjoyment of every moment of this journey.
Randy Travis, the Grammy-winning singer, has gained immense popularity for his chart-topping hits, including “Forever and Ever, Amen” and “Diggin’ Up Bones.”
