A Texas bus company has made the decision to cease transporting undocumented migrants from Texas to New York City following a lawsuit filed by Mayor Eric Adams.
“The Defendant Roadrunner Charters Inc. has been instructed to immediately stop the transportation of individuals known as migrants from Texas to New York City, as well as from Texas to the surrounding areas of New York City,” stated the letter.
New York City Mayor Adams has taken legal action against several Texas bus companies for their role in transporting migrants to sanctuary cities. The mayor is seeking a hefty sum of $700 million in damages. This move comes as part of Adams’ ongoing efforts to address the immigration crisis in his city and hold accountable those responsible for facilitating the transportation of migrants. By filing this lawsuit, Mayor Adams aims to send a strong message that his administration will not tolerate any actions that undermine the safety and well-being of New York City residents.

The New York City Department of Social Services filed a lawsuit against 17 companies, including Roadrunner Charters, alleging that they violated New York state law by neglecting to cover the expenses associated with migrant care.
The lawsuit aimed to recover $708 million in damages.
According to Adams, New York City is taking responsibility and leading the nation in handling the national humanitarian crisis. However, he asserts that they will not tolerate the reckless political games coming from the state of Texas.
“I am delighted to witness that Roadrunner, one of the bus companies we filed a lawsuit against for participating in Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s plan to transport a large number of migrants to our city, aiming to overpower our shelter system and burden New York City with the costs, has agreed to suspend the transportation of migrants into and within New York City until the lawsuit is resolved,” Adams stated. “We urge all other bus companies implicated in this lawsuit to follow suit.”
Recently, migrants who have recently arrived are seen boarding a bus to return to their temporary tent shelters at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York. This former airfield is currently being used as a temporary residence for these individuals.
In January, Adams initially filed the lawsuit, denouncing the bussing of migrants as a “reckless political ploy.”
According to Adams, New York City is committed to managing the humanitarian crisis, but it cannot bear the financial burden caused by reckless political tactics from Texas alone. In response, the city is taking legal action against 17 companies involved in Governor Abbott’s plan to transport a large number of migrants to New York City, aiming to overwhelm the social services system.
