According to a recent poll conducted by Monmouth University, around 50% of American voters believe that there is a possibility that President Joe Biden could be replaced as the Democratic nominee due to concerns about his health. Additionally, approximately 33% of voters think that Donald Trump could potentially lose the Republican nomination as a result of his numerous legal issues.
The release of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report last week has brought about intensified questions regarding Biden’s age and mental stamina. The report specifically described Biden’s memory as “poor.”
According to the study, the Hur report did not change public opinion regarding whether Biden mishandled classified documents found in his home and a think tank office he uses. However, it did strengthen the growing concern about Biden’s physical and mental well-being.
According to the poll, a majority of voters, 51%, expressed confidence in Trump’s mental capacity and physical stamina to lead the country. However, only 32% of voters felt the same way about Biden.
Voter opinion on both candidates has undergone a shift since a 2020 study conducted months prior to the previous presidential election.
In 2020, only 45 percent of voters had confidence in Trump’s stamina, while over half of the voters were confident in Biden’s stamina. However, this statistic has seen a significant decrease since then.
According to recent surveys, there has been a noticeable shift in confidence among Democratic voters regarding President Biden’s mental and physical stamina. In the summer of 2020, an impressive 91 percent of Democrats expressed confidence in his abilities. However, the current figures show a slight decline, with 72 percent of Democrats maintaining that same level of confidence. This shift indicates a noteworthy trend among both Democratic and Republican voters.
The Monmouth University Poll was conducted via telephone between February 8 and 12, with a total of 902 adults participating. The results of the question were based on 822 registered voters and carry a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
According to the report, there hasn’t been much change in support for the candidates since the previous poll conducted last fall. Approximately 40% of the voters surveyed expressed their definite or probable support for Trump, while an equal number showed their backing for Biden.
