Deadly thunderstorms and tornadoes in Georgia and Illinois: This photo gallery displays the storm damage

A strong storm system, which included tornadoes, has moved across the South to the Ohio Valley, causing extensive damage to numerous businesses and resulting in power outages for tens of thousands of individuals.

According to Gov. Jim Justice of West Virginia, he declared a state of emergency on Tuesday for Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln, and Nicholas counties. The reason behind this decision is the widespread effects of flooding, downed trees, power outages, and road blockages.

There were a total of sixteen tornadoes reported in various states including Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. In Kentucky, gusts reached as high as 100 mph.

According to the Peachtree City office of the National Weather Service, the tornado in Georgia had a path length of 9.5 miles and was 800 yards wide. With wind speeds reaching as high as 115 mph, the tornado was classified as an EF2 twister.

According to a database compiled by USA Today, over 361,000 households in several states, including New York, Wisconsin, and West Virginia, remained without power as of Wednesday night.

According to reports, the storm system has caused injuries to multiple individuals and unfortunately claimed the lives of at least three people.

    • Mary Baker, an 82-year-old woman was killed in Collegeville.
    • Michael Kranyak, a 70-year-old man was killed in Aston Township.
    • A Kentucky man was killed in Campbell County.

According to WPVI, both Baker and Kranyak tragically lost their lives in similar circumstances. Each of their cars was struck by a falling tree.

Susan Zvarick, a resident of Collegeville, has expressed her observations about the frequent falling of trees in her area. She explains that this phenomenon has been occurring consistently throughout the year due to the combination of moisture and high winds in the prevailing weather patterns.

Rice expressed concern about the swaying trees, emphasizing the unpredictability of tall trees in strong winds. He described it as a potentially dangerous combination.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed his condolences and sympathies in response to the tragic loss of a young man’s life. He emphasized the significance of every life and stated that his thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.
