Attorney General Tim Griffin is calling on the courts to take further action against a Texas-based robocaller for blatantly disregarding permanent bans, as stated in a press release.
The company, owned by John Spiller, goes by the name Rising Eagle Capital Group, LLC. According to Griffin, Spiller continues to run other businesses despite receiving a permanent ban from telemarketing.
In March 2023, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas banned Spiller for engaging in the harassment of individuals through telemarketing phone calls.
Griffin, along with seven other state attorneys general, has taken action to prohibit Spiller and his business partners from engaging in telemarketing activities.
Arkansans are greatly bothered by unwanted calls, and Attorney General Griffin is determined to fight against these robocallers who disregard the law and the courts.
Spiller, as stated in the press release, has established a minimum of three new businesses in order to carry out telemarketing calls since the initial lawsuit was filed against him.
Griffin and other attorneys general are urging the court to prohibit Spiller from participating in any telephone-related activities as a consequence of violating these bans. This encompasses transmitting calls through the U.S. telephone network, providing text messaging services, and facilitating ringless voicemail messages.
The attorneys general are also urging Spiller to shut down any of his current telephone service companies.
Attorneys general are also calling for Spiller to be held accountable for his actions and to pay a significant sum of over $122 million. This amount represents the suspended funds that would have been awarded to him, had he complied with the initial court order.
