‘Saturday Night Live’ mocks Trump for selling $60 bibles before Easter Sunday

The latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” on NBC began with a hilarious sketch that took a dig at former President Trump and his unusual promotion of $60 Bibles during Holy Week.

The episode, which aired on the night before Easter, started with a quick reference to the biblical tale of Jesus’ resurrection. James Austin Johnson then made his entrance on stage, reprising his role as Trump. In a bold move, he likened himself to Jesus.

During Easter, I find myself drawing comparisons between myself and Jesus Christ. It’s become somewhat of a tradition for me, and surprisingly, people seem to be accepting of it. So, I’ve decided to continue with this practice,” Johnson shared. “And if you think it’s an odd choice, just imagine how strange it would be if I suddenly started selling Bibles. Well, guess what? I’m selling Bibles now.”

In an exciting partnership with country musician Lee Greenwood, former President Trump recently revealed his plan to sell “God Bless USA” Bibles. Highlighting the significance of having a copy of the Bible in every American home, he made this announcement in a video message. This move comes just in time for Good Friday and Easter Sunday, emphasizing the importance of faith during these special occasions.

Johnson proudly displayed what appeared to be a copy of the “God Bless USA” Bible. With enthusiasm, he expressed his deep love for the Bible, describing it as his all-time favorite book that he highly recommends reading. He particularly enjoys the conclusion of the Bible, appreciating how everything comes together. He then offered a unique opportunity for others to own this special Bible for $60.

โ€œBut I’m not doing this for the money,โ€ Johnson’s Trump declared, โ€œI’m doing it for the glory of God, and to pander to the public, and mostly for the money.” However, he expressed his concern about the absence of religion and Christianity in the country, emphasizing the need for their revival.

Johnson playfully mentioned that the “God Bless USA” Bible includes “some stunning illustrations” along with several cleverly photoshopped pictures of his face superimposed onto biblical scenes.

The $60 King James Bible includes lyrics from Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.,” as well as the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

“I’m back to my cherished Bible, a precious compilation that encompasses not only the Constitution and Pledge of Allegiance but perhaps even the Miranda rights. However, I regret to inform you that we had to make some omissions,” Johnson jokingly remarked, mentioning that the Biblical narratives of Amos and Habakkuk did not make the cut.

“If you place your order now, we’ll even include a complimentary Trump miracle toaster. You know, sometimes people see peculiar shapes, like a picture of Jesus, in their toast. Well, how about experiencing the miracle of Trump?”

Last week, Trump faced a wave of criticism for his decision to sell Bibles. The hosts of ABC’s “This View” strongly denounced the initiative, with one host labeling it as “religious hypocrisy.” Additionally, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) urged the former president to familiarize himself with the Bible’s teachings on adultery.

Greenwood dismissed the criticism, stating that it is simply coming from those who oppose Trump.
