“He’s Our Angel”: A Sheriff’s Deputy Reunites With the Baby He Rescued Following a Car Crash

In a heartwarming incident, a sheriff’s deputy from Florida has been hailed as an honorary “uncle” for his heroic act of rescuing a 6-month-old baby from a life-threatening car crash.

On February 8, 2024, Sgt. David Musgrove found himself on a routine patrol when a speeding motorcycle caught his attention. Within moments, the sound of a crash reverberated through the air.

Kayleigh Foley was the driver of the other car involved in the incident. She was on her way home from a dinner outing with her daughters, Ariel, 3, and Lola, 6 months. Trapped in her seat, Kayleigh resorted to honking her horn to alert the officer that there were people inside the vehicle.

“I was filled with panic and desperation as I screamed out, ‘My babies, my babies, someone please get my babies’,” she recounted.

In a state of panic, Kayleigh turned to Sgt. Musgrove and urgently inquired about the well-being of her baby.

“He said, ‘Let me do my job,'” she recounted. “Despite the ongoing traffic and lack of assistance from others, he swiftly moved her to the median and began performing CPR.”

According to the officer, the first responders quickly took action and were successful in restoring her vital signs. The officer expressed gratitude for the presence of a first responder at the scene, emphasizing that it didn’t necessarily have to be them specifically, but the fact that a first responder was there likely played a crucial role in saving her life.

The Deputy Remains a Staple in the Baby’s Life After He Heroically Saved Her Life

Lola’s grandma, Lisa Foley, expressed her gratitude by stating, “He’s our angel, that’s for sure. We wouldn’t have our baby Lola if it hadn’t been for Sgt. Musgrove and his quick action.”

Lola is currently in good condition, but medical professionals are closely monitoring her for any potential long-term complications.

Lisa highlighted the advantage of the patient’s age, as her fontanels had not fully closed. This allowed for better accommodation of brain swelling, eliminating the need for neurosurgery.

The baby’s side has been accompanied by the sheriff’s deputy ever since her heart-stopping rescue. He has been spending time with the family while she recuperated in the hospital and even initiated a GoFundMe campaign in their honor. He maintains daily communication with Kayleigh and provides assistance as she takes a break from school to devote herself entirely to caring for Lola. Kayleigh found herself becoming a single mother when her fiancé tragically passed away just days prior to Lola’s birth.

Lola had a special meeting with the officer at the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office before he was awarded the Black and Blue Award for his heroism.

Lola’s daughters have affectionately given the title of “Uncle Dave” to Sgt. Musgrove. It is a belief shared by Kayleigh that their meeting was a result of divine intervention. It is a striking coincidence that Sgt. Musgrove and Kayleigh share the same birthdays, and it is worth noting that his grandmother also bears the name Lola.

Kayleigh expressed her disbelief, stating that the situation seemed too coincidental. She pointed out that the officer in question, who is never assigned to patrol Englewood and never works at night, happened to be present just when he was needed.
