The Senate has killed the border bill that Congress has been working on. This could also jeopardize the President’s aid to support Ukraine and Israel, which is expected to be voted on.
NBC News reported that the Senate is set to hold a vote on the foreign aid bill today.
According to NBC News, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stated.
“It looks to me, and to most of our members, as if we have no real chance here to make a law.”
According to Newsweek, the bill states:
“The United States District Court for the District of Columbia shall have sole and original jurisdiction to hear challenges, whether constitutional or otherwise, to the validity of this section or any written policy directive, written policy guideline, written procedure, or the implementation thereof.”
Republican lawmakers, including GOP critic Josh Hawley, voted against the border bill, as reported by CNN. Hawley expressed his opposition to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s stance on the matter.
“I just don’t think the last three months could have been handled any worse. Why would voters look at what goes on over here — the circus — and say, ‘Yeah. We want more of this?’”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is set to unveil a border plan on Thursday, February 8. He will be accompanied by 20 state representatives at Shelby Park, as reported by News Nation Now.
The Biden administration’s efforts to address the issue of illegal immigration were hindered when Governor Abbott took control of the park, which was part of the US Border Protection’s responsibilities. Governor Abbott believed that the park was being used by illegal immigrants. Surprisingly, Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas was not aware of the state’s takeover of the park, as reported by The New York Post.
