Gov. Brian Kemp has announced the appointment of a new Adjutant General for the Georgia National Guard. This decision marks a significant change in the division’s organizational leadership.
The announcement comes in the wake of Major General Thomas Carden’s new role as Deputy Commander of the U.S. Northern Command and Vice Commander of the U.S. Element, North American Aerospace Defense Command, stationed at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado.
Major General Richard “Dwayne” Wilson was appointed to the position of Major General by Kemp in a recent announcement.
In October 2020, Wilson assumed the position of Assistant Adjutant General of the Georgia Army National Guard. His outstanding performance in this role led to his appointment as the Adjutant General by Kemp.
“In behalf of the entire population of Georgia, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Major General Wilson for his new role as a leader in our state and Armed Forces,” expressed Kemp in a statement, also conveying gratitude and congratulations to Carden. “I am eager to collaborate with him in order to safeguard the welfare and security of the people of Georgia. Marty, the girls, and I would also like to extend our warm congratulations and gratitude to Major General Carden, who has served with exceptional distinction during his tenure as the Adjutant General.”
Governor’s office stated that Wilson, in addition to earning multiple degrees and serving in the military throughout his life, has received numerous accolades including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army and Air Force Commendation medals.
Colonel Jason Fryman has been appointed as the Assistant Adjutant General, succeeding Wilson who was recently appointed as the Adjutant General.
“The Kemp family expresses deep gratitude for Colonel Fryman’s unwavering dedication to serving in this new role,” Kemp expressed. “We eagerly anticipate his valuable contributions as a leader, as well as his enduring commitment to both the Guard and the people of Georgia.”
Fryman, a highly experienced and decorated veteran of the armed forces, has served for a long time.
The governor’s office has announced that he has been decorated with several prestigious accolades during his career. These include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with the Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 Campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism-Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism-Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, and Master Army Aviator Badge.
