In March, Western New York Will Implement This Law

As February draws to a close, an important New York State law is on the verge of taking effect. This legislation applies to both Buffalo and Western New York.

Buffalo is in for a chilly weekend with the return of cold air. However, the weather is set to take a turn next week, with temperatures expected to soar above 60 degrees. It’s safe to say that spring is finally on its way, bringing warmer and more pleasant weather to the city.

The recent pleasant weather has provided an opportunity for residents to tidy up the debris caused by the strong winds in January, which includes fallen sticks and trees. Taking advantage of the dry conditions, many people have been burning these materials without any issues. However, it’s important to note that there is a deadline approaching in New York State.

Every year, New York State implements a burn ban to safeguard the valuable forests, woodlands, and local communities.

Annual burn ban is in effect from March 16 through May 14.

The New York State DEC wants to remind everyone about the importance of considering alternative methods to dispose of downed sticks, limbs, and debris. While burning may seem like a quick and efficient solution, it is essential to be mindful of the potential risks and negative impacts it can have on the environment and public health.

When you plan a fire, always check for fire danger in your area on DEC’s online map (updated every week). Also, local governments may have stricter rules than NYS; your fire department will have information about local burning laws.

As the days go by, the temperature is gradually dropping and the weather is becoming colder. It’s important to be cautious and take necessary precautions to ensure your safety during this time. It’s worth keeping in mind that March 16th is just around the corner.
